I have been working hard to improve my sauces for years. The time has come for me to allow everyone the opportunity to experience My Heritage. My love for cooking and creating is the resulting evolution of "That Sauce!"
This has been a serious endeavor, but nothing less than a labor of love. I too have recognized and embraced the spirituality my love for being outdoors hunting and fishing has created. I believe. And truly, these recipes came to me via embracing my Heritage and understanding the importance of faith.
All the best, dave

In '86 or '87. while home college, there was a get together at my grandparents house. My Aunt saw me adding stuff to it and asked me what i was doing. I said, "Making it better."
2004- my youngest daughter Alexis asked me to cook the whole hog (I killed it with my bow and she somehow remembered) I had in the freezer for her birthday. She was born on the 4th of July. Whole hogs are a big thing in South Carolina, cooking tthem is an art. I had to create a sauce for that pig.
'That Sauce' began as a mustard base sauce, it was South Carolina.
Folks took home meat and sauce. The whole hog and 'That Sauce' became Alexis's annual birthday meal.
During one birthday cookout, Tyrone, a guest, told me, "Man, I will be sitting at home and get 'That Sauce' and eat it with bread!"
2010 - Ashley, my oldest daughter, graduated from high school. I twisted and tweaked my mustard sauce for her graduation cookout. What Dave's Heritage BBQ Sauce is today began then.
2020 - Marvin Fisher a fraternity brother told me that I needed to come to Atlanta for a bike ride. I didn't want to and told him no. He insisted. He told me I needed to come ride and meet Marvin Barnes--he had driven over from Dallas to ride with me.
I went, even though I didn't want to. I took a gallon of sauce with me for the cookout. Marvin Barnes took sauce back to Texas in water bottles.
2021 - Harold 'Mitch' Mitchem Jr. Came to visit. I cooked the tenderloin from a wild hog I had killed in Louisiana during Thanksgiving.
Mitch ate three sandwiches in like thirteen seconds. 'That Sauce' made him say, "Man you got to do something with this!"
A few days later, Marvin Barnes called. He was mad that he hadn't received the sauce I said I would send him.
He was mad. And I got mad that he was mad. I was like who does he think he is being mad about not having my sauce?
That questioning led me to accept that my heritage was ready to bottle.
October 22, 2023 Dave's Heritage BBQ Sauce was launched at Southern Universities Homecoming
